Do you know much about your teeth? If not, it’s time to learn. The more you know about your teeth, the better chance you have of keeping them in top-notch condition. If you have strong and healthy teeth, you can have a strong and healthy smile. So, our dentist, Dr. Kenneth Pilgrim, would like to teach you a thing or two about teeth by sharing the following tooth facts with you:
-There are different parts of a tooth, including the crown, enamel, dentin, pulp and tooth root. Your teeth are very resilient. In fact, they are considered the strongest bones in the body.
-There are many different types of teeth in your mouth, like the incisors, canines, premolars and molars. Each tooth has its own job, like cutting food, tearing food, crushing food and grinding or chewing food.
-There are many things that threaten to harm your teeth each day, like bacteria, plaque, unnatural pressure and acid. These things can cause tooth decay, gum disease, tooth fractures, enamel erosion and more.
-You need to clean and care for your teeth regularly by brushing them twice a day (with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste), flossing them once a day (with a flossing product of your choice), rinsing them once a day (with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash), and attending your dental checkups every six months.
